How we work

Holistic, multi-layered Interventions

Creating real, lasting change is challenging. In the face of so many complex social issues, it’s hard to know where to start. Research has shown that the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty is by using multi-layered interventions.

At Camp Sizanani, we believe in using a variety of strategies to impact the lives of children. Our interventions include:

  • Mentorship, offering continuous support between youth and NGO staff

  • Holistic programs for children, families, and communities, focusing on career and life planning

  • Peer educator programs

  • Transitional work opportunities to help youth move into the workforce

 Alignment to Sustainable Development Goals

Our approach is fully aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which provides a helpful blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

To end the cycle of poverty and its related deprivations, all interventions must include strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.

Our programs are specifically aligned with 3 development goals:

  • No poverty

  • Good health and wellbeing

  • Quality education for all

Testimonies

Testimony from a Parent

A parent from Orange Farm shares how Camp Sizanani transformed their son's life. Struggling emotionally and academically due to his parents' divorce and father's neglect, the boy found healing, support, and a sense of belonging at the camp. Through activities, team-building exercises, and the encouragement of counselors and peers, he regained self-esteem, overcame academic challenges, and returned home with purpose and determination.

"After attending the camp, I witnessed a remarkable transformation in my son. The camp's activities and supportive atmosphere provided him with an outlet to express and process his feelings in a positive way. The counselors and his fellow campers, particularly his new friend, welcomed him with open arms and gave him a sense of belonging and understanding that he had been missing.

Through team-building exercises and workshops, my son regained his self-esteem and overcame his academic struggles. He returned from the camp with a newfound purpose and determination, and his grades significantly improved. I am forever grateful to Camp Sizanani for helping my son overcome his difficulties and become a happier and more confident individual. As proof of this transformation, he has been accepted into the University of Free State, where he will study BSc Physics majoring in Microbiology and Genetics.

I am incredibly proud of my son's growth and development, and I have Camp Sizanani to thank for it."
